Join us at InSpades as a Set Dresser / Level Designer

We're looking for a talented Set Dresser/Level Designer to help us create our up-and-coming stylized open world game!

You will be joining a team of eleven dedicated developers located around the world, working with us remotely in a full-time contract position. You will have the ability to set your own work hours.

This role will mainly focus on working with our current Level Designer and supporting him with set dressing and decorating areas, as well as planning, brainstorming and collaborating on new regions, biomes and more.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Unity: Strong knowledge of Unity Engine and its environment/level design tools. Good understanding of prefabs, prefab variants, hierarchy management etc. We also use a suite of popular plugins, including: Microsplat, Foliage Renderer, nTools, Spline+, etc.

  • Level Design Principles: Knowledge of level design theories, including player flow, spatial reasoning, and gameplay integration.

  • Optimization: Understanding of performance optimization, including: polygon/gameobject complexity management, LOD systems, and efficient use of assets.

  • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work closely with other designers, artists, and developers, meet creative and technical goals, and act on feedback.

  • Good eye for detail and tons of patience: you’ll be doing a lot of set dressing - placing props, creating prefab variants and making things look pretty and nice, all within the Unity Engine.

  • Portfolio: Your portfolio should showcase past projects, including: examples of environments you've designed or contributed to, modular kit planning would be nice to see (we don’t ask you for any 3d Asset Creation skills), evidence of design knowledge and principles.

Nice to have:

  • Shipped games, ideally you have a game under your belt.

  • Have worked on larger worlds, previously designed large levels or spaces.

  • Australia based (but not necessarily), our current level designer is on GMT +11 (Australia Based), art director on GMT +3 (Europe Based) - an overlap between these time zones would be ideal.

  • An understanding of the 3D Asset Creation Pipeline, basic understanding of the art asset creation workflow, involving: modeling, texturing, LODs, custom colliders etc. would be fantastic! You will not won’t ask you to model or texture any 3D assets or props.
